Tips For Reducing Costs

We want to make using Lindy as efficient and affordable as possible for you. In this guide, we'll explain how to cut costs. For more information on how our billing system works, refer to this FAQ guide first.

How to Cut Costs

₁. Filter High-Volume Triggers

One of the most effective ways to save money is by filtering frequently occurring Triggers, such as new incoming emails. Not every email or event needs to trigger a Lindy action. By setting up filters, you can ensure that only relevant emails or other events will consume credits.

For example, let's say you work at Acme. If you want Lindy to label emails sent from your team with “Acme”, you should apply a filter to only trigger Lindy if the email is from an email address that includes acme.com. This is how you'd do that:

2. Use a Cheaper Model

Lindy offers a range of language models to cater to different needs, from basic to advanced.

While advanced models may provide more nuanced responses or handle more complex tasks, they also cost more credits. In many cases, a cheaper model can work, significantly reducing costs.

Things to consider when selecting your model:

Evaluate Your Needs: Consider the complexity of the tasks you're automating with Lindy. If the tasks involve straightforward responses or actions (e.g. limited actions/triggers, summarization), a basic model might be just as effective as a more advanced one.
Experiment with Different Models: Try executing your tasks with cheaper models and compare the outcomes. Look for a balance between cost and performance that meets your needs. We recommend starting your Lindies with bigger models until you get their high-level flow right, and then to gradually downgrade the model to optimize your costs.
Monitor Performance: Keep an eye on how well the cheaper models are handling your tasks. If you notice a significant drop in effectiveness, consider if the cost savings justify the performance trade-off.

3. Clear Context to Reduce Credit Usage

‍Every time Lindy processes a task, it carries forward the conversation history as context. This can quickly increase credit consumption, especially if the workflow involves analyzing large amounts of data—such as extracting webpage contents.

To optimize costs, add "Clear Context" actions in your workflows after significant data processing steps. This resets the conversation memory, ensuring Lindy only carries forward relevant information instead of unnecessary history.

4. Use cheaper actions

Some of our actions have different costs in order to use. For example, our People Data Labs actions cost 40 credits per result. If you want to switch to a cheaper research action, you can use our Perplexity actions, which cost 0.5 credits per result.
