Marketing Focus Group

Learn how to create a focus group with multiple personas to iterate on marketing copy.

Let’s face it – creating marketing copy that resonates with your audience can be challenging. But Lindy is here to help! Think of the Lindy we’ll set up in this guide as your autonomous marketing focus group, allowing you to refine your marketing messages while your AI assistant manages the iteration process.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up and customize a Marketing Focus Group Lindy that:

Simulates a focus group discussion
Iterates on marketing copy based on focus group feedback
Ensures high excitement and low confusion levels
Provides a final, polished marketing message

Add The Lindy To Your Account

To begin, add the Marketing Focus Group Lindy to your account. Once added, open the Flow Editor to see how it works.

Understand The Trigger

This Lindy workflow begins with a Chat Message Received trigger. This allows you to initiate the focus group process by sending a message in your Lindy’s task view with the initial marketing copy.

No additional configuration is needed here.

Set Up The Focus Group Simulation

After the trigger, you’ll see three Chat Send Message actions. These represent the simulated focus group participants providing feedback on your marketing copy.

Understanding the Focus Group Roles

It's important to distinguish between the focus group manager and the participants:

The first persona is the focus group manager. This role is vital because they iterate on the copy and resend it to the participants on every iteration.
The following two personas are the focus group participants who provide feedback.

Having this structure ensures a dynamic and iterative process, with the manager refining the copy based on participant feedback.

Click on each Chat Send Message action to view the prompts. Each "Message" field contains a prompt that instructs Lindy to act as either the focus group manager or a participant, providing unique perspectives and feedback.

Here are the example prompts:

1. Focus Group Manager

[You are Johnny, a super smart, super conscientious employee at a startup. You help your CEO iterate on marketing content…]

2. Focus Group Participant #1

[You are part of a focus group, giving detailed and critical feedback on something. Your persona: you are a 30-year-old solopreneur and a tinkerer by nature.]]

3. Focus Group Participant #2

[You are part of a focus group providing feedback on marketing content. Your persona: you are a 45-year-old, experienced professional and the marketing director for a mid-sized company.]

Change these prompts if you have preferences for specific focus group personas.

Expanding Your Focus Group

If you want to add more "feedback" participants to your focus group, you can do so by duplicating the Chat Send Message action and adding a new persona prompt in the flow. This allows you to gather a wider range of perspectives on your marketing copy.

Participant Feedback Ratings

It's important to note that the participants are instructed to provide two separate ratings for each iteration of the copy:

Excitement score: How excited they are about the marketing copy (out of 10)
Confusion score: How confused they are by the marketing copy (out of 10)

These scores help quantify the effectiveness of each iteration and guide the focus group manager in refining the copy.

Iteration Process

Next, you’ll see a Condition step. This step ensures that the focus group discussion goes through at least three rounds of iteration.

Click on the Condition step to view the two conditions:

you’ve already done at least 3 rounds of iteration.

you’ve done less than 3 rounds of iteration.

This setup enables an iterative process where your marketing copy is refined based on the focus group’s feedback. Lindy will continue the iteration until there have been at least three rounds of review by each member of the focus group.

Excitement And Confusion Check

After the minimum iterations Condition step, you’ll find another Condition step. This step ensures that the focus group participants are highly excited about the marketing copy and not confused.

Click on this Condition step to see the two conditions:

either of the two people in the focus group are either less than 10/10 excited or more than 2/10 confused

BOTH of the people in the focus group are BOTH 10/10 excited and less than or equal to 2/10 confused

Remember, if a SINGLE person is not 10/10 excited, you can't go down this path

If these criteria aren’t met, Lindy will continue iterating on the marketing copy.

Reaching A Conclusion

Once the excitement and confusion criteria are met, Lindy will send a final Chat Send Message action.

Click on this Chat Send Message action to view the prompt:

Victory! Explain the final positioning and summarize the whole conversation — what worked, what didn’t. Be concise, no yapping.

This message provides you with a concise overview of the focus group process and the final marketing positioning.

Deliver The Final Copy

The last step is an AI Agent step that delivers the final, polished marketing copy.

Click on the AI Agent to view the prompt:

Send the user the final copy so they can copy and paste it. The user MUST receive the complete, final copy after revisions.

This ensures you receive the complete, final version of your marketing copy after all revisions.

Since this AI agent is tasked to only iterate and send messages back to the user in the chat, it does not require skills that enable an AI agent to take action and use other tools.

Edit Context Instructions

Before testing your Lindy, you may want to customize its Context in the Lindy-level settings. This helps ensure your marketing copy aligns with your brand and meets your specific goals.

Context is a set of overarching instructions that Lindy keeps in mind at every step in the automation. These instructions are added as a prefix to every LLM call made by this Lindy, ensuring she has useful context about the task she is performing.

To access Lindy-level settings, click the “Settings” tab beside the Flow Editor and Tasks tab at the top of your Lindy page.

Find the “Context” field on the Settings page. Edit the existing instructions to reflect your needs. Here’s a suggested prompt:

You are facilitating a Marketing Focus Group simulation responsible for reviewing and iterating on marketing content provided by the user. The group consists of three distinct personas—Johnny (the manager), Tinkerer Tommy, and Savvy Sarah—each with their own perspective and role.


Your task is to coordinate the simulation by:
- Responding from each member of the group.
- Allowing each member to evaluate the content and provide feedback based on their unique persona.
- Guiding the iteration process, refining the copy based on the group's input.
- Continuing the refinement until all members agree on a version that meets the excitement and clarity criteria (10/10 excitement and 2/10 or less confusion for all members).
- Once consensus is reached, compiling and delivering the final, polished copy to the user.


Throughout this process, maintain the distinct voice and perspective of each persona as defined in their individual prompts. Ensure that the simulation progresses through at least three rounds of iteration before considering the final version.


When presenting the user with the final copy, iterate and adjust it based on their feedback until they are happy with the final draft.

This ensures that Lindy is fully equipped to provide the most relevant feedback during the iteration process.

Make any necessary edits to ensure the instructions align with your marketing focus group objectives.

Test Your Lindy

Now that your Marketing Focus Group Lindy is set up, it’s time to test it out! Simply send your initial marketing copy to Lindy through the task view. Lindy will simulate the focus group discussion, iterate on the copy, and provide you with a final, polished version.
