Human in the Loop

Learn how to add a human in the loop, at any step of your automation.

Lindy performs workflows autonomously but can keep you updated and ask for confirmation.

We call this “adding a human in the loop.”

There are three ways to do this:

‍Ask for Confirmation: Lindy will not perform the action until you confirm it in the app.
‍Receive an Email: Have Lindy send you an email update directly to your inbox.
‍Receive a Message from Your App of Choice: Have Lindy update you through a message on Slack, Twilio, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.

Ask for Confirmation

The Ask for Confirmation field only appears for actions with "side effects," e.g. writing / updating data in other apps.

If this is turned ON, Lindy will not take action (send the email, update the record, create the Calendar event, etc) until you approve the action in the Lindy task view.

To “approve” the action before Lindy proceeds, you will see the action as a “draft” in your Lindy’s task view (where you see the history of workflow executions). Once you click “Send email” (or whichever action was set to “Ask for Confirmation”), Lindy will proceed with executing the task.

When your Lindies have tasks that are pending or require confirmation, there will be a notification in your Lindy’s sidebar on the given task.

Receive an Email

Keeping a human in the loop by receiving an email is especially common for workflow updates and intercepting scenarios where you might want to take action yourself instead of having Lindy do it.

An example scenario would be when you have Lindy emailing back and forth with a lead or negotiating collaboration pricing and packaging options. Once they have come to an agreement, you can have Lindy email you with the agreement details so you can finalize the process.

To receive an email from Lindy, follow the steps below:

Add a Condition after the action that you intend on being updated about.

Define the Condition by adding a statement to instruct Lindy on when she should send you an Email update.
- Example: “you came to an agreement with the emailer or they declined the offering”

Add the Send Email action.

Set the To, Cc, and Bcc fields to “Manually Select.”

Insert your email address in the To field.

In the Body field, insert a prompt to instruct Lindy on what she is updating you with and what details need to be included.
- Example: name, email address of the lead, deal information, etc.

Receive a Message from Your App of Choice

Lindy can also update you through your app of choice, such as Slack, Twilio, Telegram, WhatsApp, etc. This is helpful when you want a group of people to be looped in, for instance, on a public Slack channel.

In this example, we are going to have Lindy send a Slack alert when a customer is requesting a refund. This is extremely helpful to ensure support tickets are properly escalated and directed to the correct team to take action.

To receive a Slack alert from Lindy, follow these steps below:

Add a Condition after the action that you intend on being updated about.

Define the Condition by adding a statement to instruct Lindy on when she should send a Slack message.
- In this example, “the customer is requesting a refund” is your conditional statement.

Add the Send Channel Message action.

Add a prompt to the Channel field to tell Lindy what channel to send the alert to.

In the Message field, insert a prompt to instruct Lindy on what she is updating you with and what details need to be included.
- Example:

Extract the email address of the recipient (not the user’s email) and append it to the Google doc. Add nothing other than the raw email address.
