Transform Newsletter Content Into Tweets

In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up a Lindy that creates Tweets based on the latest news from your newsletter subscriptions.

Don't let valuable newsletter content go to waste! Lindy can monitor your inbox for newsletters, extract their content, and send you weekly tweet drafts via Slack— ensuring you never run out of relevant and up-to-date Twitter content to post.

You can further customize how Lindy structures your tweets by providing examples and style guides via prompts.

This setup will take less than 3 minutes!

Here's what the final Lindy Flow Editor will contain:

A flow starting with a Gmail Email Received trigger to monitor your inbox for newsletters, extract the content, and append a Google Doc with the information.
A flow starting with a On Recurring Schedule trigger to wake Lindy up weekly, review and refresh the newsletter content in the Google Doc, and send you a Slack message with perfectly crafted, relevant tweets.

Let’s get started!

Create the Initial Google Document

To get started, add the Tweets Based on Newsletter Content Lindy here.

Then, create a new Google Document with today’s date, in YYYY.MM.DD format, followed by “ / Tweets Made By Lindy <> Newsletter"

Example Google Document title: 2024.09.10 / Tweets Made By Lindy <> Newsletter

Lindy will look for this Google Document whenever you receive a newsletter in your inbox. You don't need to do anything to the Google Document after creating and titling it.

Connect Your Email

Click the Gmail Email Received trigger and connect the Gmail account you want Lindy to monitor for newsletter emails.

You can optionally add trigger filters to ensure only certain types of emails trigger your Lindy.

Customize What Type of Content Lindy Will Use

Click the Condition under the Gmail Email Received trigger.

In the Condition prompt, you can add additional instructions to the default prompt that instruct Lindy on which types of emails she should proceed with.

The default Condition prompt is:

if the email is a newsletter

To narrow down which types of newsletter content get turned into weekly tweets, you can add additional instructions, such as:

if the email is a newsletter with AI News, podcast show notes, a Ben’s Bites tutorial email sent to his community or an AI companies product announcement email.

Understanding The Get Document Prompt

Click the Google Docs Get Document action under the Condition step.

Under the "ID, Doc Name, or Link" field, you'll see an AI Prompt that tells Lindy to find the most recently dated "Tweets Made by Lindy <> Newsletter" document.

Exact prompt below:

Your job is to search for a document titled: "[the most RECENT date (hint: it will not be today's date.. search for the most recent date given the options)] / Tweets Made By Lindy <> Newsletter"

HINT: The document will NOT be today's date, it will be a date formatted YYYY.MM.DD and your job is to choose the most recently dates document.

This prompt allows Lindy to search your Google Drive and retrieve the most up-to-date Google Document prior to making any updates.

Updating the Document

In the "ID, Doc Name, or Link" field of the Google Docs Update Document action, the AI Prompt refers to the document found in the previous step. No additional configuration is needed for this field.

In the "Content" field, there's a prompt that instructs Lindy on what to extract from the newsletter. This will be used in the recurring workflow where Lindy drafts tweets based on the extracted newsletter content.

Make edits where you see fit, but we've found this prompt works reliably:

Extract the Newsletter content found in the email and add a new bullet point line with each new "topic" on the newsletter.

It should be formatted like so:

* **{Concise 1-3 word summary of the topic discussed in the newsletter section**}: {A few sentences summarizing the content with the most pertinent details included}

* **{Concise 1-3 word summary of the topic discussed in the newsletter section**}: {A few sentences summarizing the content with the most pertinent details included}
...

Repeat this structure for as many topics as are included on the newsletter.

Ensure the "Mode" field is set to "Set Manually" and "Append". This ensures Lindy will add content to the document and not replace content.

The Recurring Schedule Trigger

Now that our inbox monitoring is set up, we can finalize the workflow by creating the tweet drafting portion of the flow.

We’ll configure this by jumping over to the other Trigger steps in the flow. A single Lindy can have multiple triggers. As you’ll notice, this Lindy has three.

The On Recurring Schedule trigger and the Chat Message Received trigger both initiate the same workflow.

The Chat Message Received trigger requires no configuration. Each time you start a new conversation with Lindy, it will initiate the workflow.

This setup allows Lindy to wake up on a recurring schedule (in this case, every Monday at 9:00 AM) AND when you message her through chat in the Lindy app to create tweet drafts from your newsletter subscriptions.

This is helpful because if you don't want to wait until Monday at 9:00 AM, you can send Lindy a message to receive your tweet drafts.

To get started, click the On Recurring Schedule trigger to customize the recurring schedule.

Get Document

This action uses the same prompt as the previous Google Docs Get Document action.

The prompt instructs Lindy to find the most recent Google Doc containing the newsletter extract from the week:

Your job is to search for a document titled: "[the most RECENT date (hint: it will not be today's date.. search for the most recent date given the options)] / Tweets Made By Lindy <> Newsletter"

Customizing The Tweets

Click the Slack Send Direct Message action.

You'll see an AI Prompt in the "User" field that instructs Lindy to send a DM to your email address.

Optional: Switch the "User" field to "Set Manually" mode and type your email address to reduce LLM calls.

In the "Message" field, edit the prompt that Lindy uses to draft tweets based on the newsletter content.

Default prompt:

Your job is to draft tweets using the content found on the Google Document. For each topic, draft a short, sophisticated, tweet. You are then going to send this to the user. The user's follower-base is Harvard grads / Computer Scientist folks who are extremely competent, witty and "up to date". 

The message should look like so: 

"Weekly Tweets Drafted from Newsletter Content:

* {tweet 1}
* {tweet 2}
* {tweet 3}
...

The message should look like so:

"Weekly Tweets Drafted from Newsletter Content:

* {tweet 1}
* {tweet 2}
* {tweet 3}
...

Tweets should also have depth to them, so people on twitter will engage with the tweet in either a repost, like or comment.

Send JUST the tweets (no need to title them or add hashtags)

Edit the beginning of the prompt to ensure it aligns with your style, audience and tone. Guide to prompting here.

For best results, copy and paste two to three of your favorite or most relevant tweets and instruct Lindy to mirror the style and structure of these tweets.

Refreshing the Weekly Content

To refresh the weekly newsletter content, we’ll have Lindy create a new, blank Google Document on this same recurring schedule, which will replace the previous newsletter digest Google Document. This ensures the following week’s Tweets will only reference new newsletter content.

To do this, click the Google Docs Create Document action.

Lindy will create a new Google Document and title the document using the prompt instructions:

Title the document: [today's date in YYYY.MM.DD format] / Tweets Made By Lindy <> Newsletter"

You can see that the "Content" field is in "Set Manually" mode and the field is empty, meaning the document will be left blank.

Now, every time you receive an email newsletter, Lindy will append it to the most recently dated document.

Test

To test your Lindy right away, send yourself your favourite newsletter content (copy and paste the newsletter into a new email and send it from a personal email address different from the one connected to the Gmail Email Received trigger of this flow).

In this example, we used The Rundown AI.

The Update Document action card will show the newsletter content extracted from the email body.

You can also refer to your Google Doc to see Lindy’s updates.

Now send your Lindy a message in the task view UI to trigger the tweet draft creation.

Watch Lindy get the most recent Google Document, send you a Slack Direct Message with tweet drafts and create the New Google Document.
