Knowledge Base

The knowledge base is a repository of files, docs, websites, and text where Lindy can retrieve information.

Lindy uses semantic search to find answers, information, knowledge, or data from the content you add to the knowledge base.

Semantic search is useful for querying knowledge bases because its results will return content matching the meaning of a query, as opposed to content that only directly matches words in the query.

For example, if your customer asks a question about “dark colored jeans,” semantic search will let Lindy retrieve results from your knowledge base relative to “black and navy jeans,” even if they don’t use the exact same words as the user’s query.

When to Use a Knowledge Base

There are multiple ways you can inject knowledge into your Lindy's workflow. This can be done through:

Prompting (use the "AI Prompt" in any action field and add a prompt for Lindy to use in order to execute the field)
AI Agents
Referencing a database like Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.
Querying a Knowledge Base

If you only have a small set of data Lindy needs to inject in order to complete the workflow, it is best to add this as a prompt or have Lindy refer to the database directly.

If the data Lindy needs to have accessible in order to complete the execution is more comprehensive, for example, a company wiki for an Employee Slackbot, use a Knowledge Base.

Using a Knowledge Base allows you to upload multiple sources of data, such as folders, plain text, websites and various files.

Types of Content for a Knowledge Base

Lindy supports multiple sources as knowledge bases:

Files

Upload documents or audio files up to 20MB in formats including PDF, XLSX, CSV, DOCX, TXT, and HTML.

Text

Insert any free-form text. Ideal for adding FAQs, copying and pasting website content, etc.

Website

Add any website link.
Use the “crawl” option to index all pages linked from your site.
If you choose to have Lindy crawl your website, you can selectively remove pages.

Cloud Storage

Supports Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Notion, Intercom, Freshdesk, Zendesk

Adding a Knowledge Base

To add a knowledge base, on a new action step, click the "Search knowledge base" option.

Then, select the knowledge base source, and either add the content directly (e.g. for files and documents) or authenticate a third-party application (e.g. Google Drive) and complete the configuration settings.

Updating the Knowledge Base

Lindy will, by default, resync your knowledge base every 24 hours.

To push an immediate resync to your Lindy’s knowledge base (useful for when your files are updated with new information), add the Resync Knowledge Base or Resync Knowledge Base Entry actions as part of your automation.

At any time, you can add, reconfigure or remove content to your knowledge base.
